FPES (Florida Press Educational Services, Inc.) is an organization of NIE professionals, which promotes reading, particularly for young people. The primary objectives for FPES have been established by the Newspaper Association of America Foundation.
Objectives:
· Develop an ability to read the newspaper critically
· Develop a desire to read reflectively
· Develop a concern for public issues
· Develop an understanding of the free press in our society
· Encourage involvement in the self-governing process
· Promote the use of the newspaper as a textbook in education
FPES is a 501(c)(3) organization.

FPES members participate in a wide range of educational programs, conferences, seminars and workshops.

Each FPES member newspaper has designed its NIE programs to meet the educational needs of its own community. Call your nearest NIE Coordinator to discuss ways NIE can work for you.
Local Newspaper in Education programs can help teachers through training and support. Special NIE programs may include:
· Newspapers sold at special school rates or fully sponsored
· Lesson plans and curriculum
· Reproducible curriculum workbooks
· Educational supplements
· Teacher workshops
· Distribution of statewide tabs
